First Friday w/ Lorelei Stumbo & Girlfriend Duties
September 6 @ 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm
Every first Friday of the month we celebrate art and music with the community. The artist is onsite with her freshly displayed works (5-9pm), and music keeps the energy level high (6-8pm).
About the Artist:
Lorelei Stumbo Falsetti is known for her burnt wood art which incorporates found objects. After gathering the raw material of wood in nature, she weaves in construction scraps, demolition waste, discarded jewelry, and scrap clothing to make intricately dimensional pieces. The textures and compositions created by decay, repair, and rebirth inspire her sculptures, spirit talismans, and beadwork. Growing up with an an Art Professor Father, Lorelei was encouraged to experiment during her art studies. As she built a cylindrical cabin, employed abstract techniques, and took to creating fire-sculpted pieces, she landed in the eco-friendly sphere of artwork. By way of Iowa City, Lorelei has been assembling and selling her unique pieces in the Ned area for the past two years.
About the Music:
Girlfriend Duties is a folk-rock band drawing influences from a diverse set of genres including Americana, Soul, and Punk Rock. The quartet features rich harmonies, sung by sisters Savanna and Jenny Wright, backed by the steady drums of Patrick Smith, and refined guitar work of Nils Jenson. The catchy songwriting is laced with emotions and irony. While sounding modern, they still pay homage to the roots of traditional American music.
