First Friday – Art & Music
November 2 @ 5:00 pm - 9:00 pm
Our First Fridays every month feature a local artist and their works that will hang on our walls for the entire month. Plus, we liven up the event with specially selected music. The artist is on site 5-9pm, and the music plays 6-8pm.
About November’s Artist: Ali Sugarman
A resident of Nederland, Barista at Salto, Doula, Reflexologist, Reiki Master Practitioner, and Yoga Instructor, Ali is also an artist, expressing her creativity through painting mandalas on canvas (geometric figures representing the universe in Hindu and Buddhist symbolism). She has also recently taken up macrame as a form of meditation. Ali believes in the balance of life, supporting and empowering one another, and living life to the fullest in human form. The natural world inspires her every step, and she is always seeking out being part of a creative community. She has found that in Ned. (And P.S., this First Fri Day is also her Birth Day!)
About November’s Musician: Aural Elixir
Jesse Maclaine is the force behind Aural Elixir. A mezzo soprano-pianist-composer, her classical training was the base to her performing and recording over the last 20 years. Her band delivers Art Rock, Folk Jazz, and Chamber Pop. This New Orleans Magazine quote sums up Jesse’s style, “Joni Mitchell’s sly and perceptive confessional meets Fiona Apple’s confrontational doomed romantic, with little hints of Tori Amos’ gonzo earth mother and Carole King’s practical warmth.” Expect a sturdy framework of popular covers, obscure treasures, and finely crafted originals.
